The French champions’ interest has now cooled after they decided that they will look elsewhere to strengthen their midfield when the transfer window opens.

But now Manchester United are taking more than a passing interest in Ndidi who joined The Foxes from Belgium club Genk three years ago.

Ndidi replaced N’Golo Kante after he was sold to Chelsea has played a crucial role in the success that Leicester have enjoyed under Brendan Rodgers this season.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to strengthen the area of his squad this summer.

He is also interested in Bayern Munich’s French international Corentin Tolisso as well as Ajax’s highly-rated star Donny van de Beek.

Ajax chief executive and former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar have confirmed that Solskjaer is interested along with Real Madrid.

He is likely to turn to Ndidi if he loses out to the Spanish giants in the race to land van de Beek, 23.

Youth team coach Ronald De Boer expects the 23-year-old to leave Ajax this summer and he reckons Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may fancy taking the Dutchman to Old Trafford.
