FIFA have decided to cancel the 2020 ‘The Best’ awards ceremony. The trophy remains with no winner this year and Messi will continue to be the reigning champion.

A momentous decision taken by FIFA concerning the awards. ‘Marca’ states that the International body have decided to cancel ‘The Best’ awards ceremony.

By doing so, according to the newspaper, FIFA will leave the trophy that recognizes the best player of the 19-20 season without a winner, burdened by the COVID-19 pandemic which has paralyzed world football.

The ceremony was supposed to take place in September of this year in Milan, but the social and health conditions have made FIFA cancel this year’s edition.

Leo Messi was the winner in 2019. With there being no winner, the Argentine will be the defending champion for another year, coming above Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2019.

In fact, the Portuguese leads the ranking as he has won 2. There there is Messi, 2019 winner, and Luka Modric who won it in 2018.

The rest of the award ceremonies this season are still taking place for now. ‘France Football’ still hasn’t decided what will happen with the Ballon d’Or, the same as for UEFA with the award ceremony that they have during the Champions League group stage draw.
